Home furnishings retailer IKEA has inaugurated the solar energy system at its Round Rock, Texas, store – which will be the largest of all IKEA solar installations atop U.S. stores.

When combined with IKEA projects atop stores in Houston and Dallas-area Frisco, the latest project will make IKEA the state's largest solar owner, according to the company. The 273,700 square-foot PV array consists of a 1.63 MW system built with 6,664 panels. REC Solar Inc. provided development, design and installation services.

This installation represents the 33rd completed solar project for IKEA in the U.S., with six more locations underway that will make the eventual U.S. solar presence of IKEA nearly 89% of its U.S. locations with a total generation of 38 MW, IKEA notes.
