Jon Wellinghoff, chairman of the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), is planning to join the energy law practice of Stoel Rives LLP when he departs his current post. Wellinghoff submitted his resignation to President Obama on May 28, but no date has been announced for his departure from FERC.
At the end of September, the president's nominee to replace Wellinghoff, Ron Binz, withdrew from consideration in the face of pressure from senators concerned about his support for renewable energy at the expense of coal.
