BlueWave Capital To Build Solar Projects In 17 Greater Boston Communities

BlueWave Capital LLC has been selected by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) of Greater Boston to develop 17 municipal solar projects in the region.

The participating MAPC communities are now eligible to enter into long-term agreements to purchase renewable electricity generated from facilities that BlueWave and its partners will develop on parking lots, school roofs, landfills and other publicly owned spaces in these communities.

The participating communities include Belmont, Beverly, Boxborough, Brookline, Chelsea, Hudson, Lincoln, Marlborough, Medford, Medway, Melrose, Reading, Sherborn, Wayland, Weston, Weymouth and Winthrop.

BlueWave was selected through a competitive selection process facilitated by MAPC and involving representatives of participating cities and towns. BlueWave's team members include SunEdison, which will be providing financing for the projects, and Borrego Solar and RGS Energy, which will serve as the engineering, procurement and construction contractors for the projects.

‘Because city and town governments get pulled in so many different directions, taking part in membership organizations like the MAPC can provide huge advantages,’ says Joe Harrison, senior project developer at Borrego Solar. ‘As owner advocates, MAPC can aggregate members to take advantage of any economies of scale and greater buying power during the contract negotiation period, and simultaneously, the process is made more efficient for participating communities.’
