Hudson, Mass.-based New England Clean Energy and Canadian Solar Inc. have agreed to extend their support of Habitat for Humanity in central Massachusetts.

The three companies initiated a six-month pilot in November 2014 to test the installation of Canadian Solar's Maple solar systems on children's playhouses that are constructed by local businesses and donated to military veterans through Habitat's Project Playhouse program.

During the pilot program, 11 playhouses were built. Canadian Solar donated the systems and New England Clean Energy donated the installation and related equipment.

Companies that have participated in the program include AstraZeneca, Bay State Savings Bank, SanDisk, Deloitte Consulting, EMC, National Grid and Re/Max Vision.

‘We're excited to continue supporting Habitat for Humanity on this important program,’ says Mark Durrenberger, president of New England Clean Energy. ‘In addition to contributing to the local community, our involvement with Project Playhouse fits with our desire at New England Clean Energy to educate the public about solar energy. Getting people excited about renewable energy, especially at a young age, is very important to the future of our planet.’
