Los Angeles Assembling Solar Action Committee To Address PV Challenges

0

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (DPW) has created the Solar Energy Action Committee (SEAC) to facilitate an expansion of residential and commercial solar photovoltaic power in the region.

According to the DPW, there are many challenges that are preventing the state and local governments in California from meeting aggressive renewable energy goals. Many of these challenges relate to the interpretation and application of codes and regulations in both the private and public sectors. Furthermore, solar technology is evolving so quickly and with such variety that jurisdictions are having problems determining how to apply codes and standards.

For example, the DPW says, the requirements of A.B.2188 and its implementation appears to be varied and not well understood.

SEAC consists of private- and public-sector renewable energy leaders who will address these and other challenges. Currently, the group has participants from each of the following:

  • CalFire
  • California Solar Energy Industries Association
  • City of Bakersfield
  • City of Los Angeles
  • City of Oceanside
  • County of Los Angeles/DPW
  • Enphase Energy
  • Intertek
  • Ironridge
  • Orange County
  • San Diego County
  • SMA Solar Technology
  • San Diego Gas and Electric
  • SolarCity
  • SunPower
  • Sunrun
  • Trina Solar
  • Underwriters Laboratory
  • Verengo Solar
