Dow Corning Seeks Government Funds For Solar Research Center | in News Departments > FYI |   |
Dow Corning Corp. has announced its plans to create a global solar energy research center at its Bay County, Mich., headquarters, with the provision that the federal and state governments help to provide funding for the proposed facility.
The Bay City News reports that Dow Corning envisions a research center - to be called American Solar Power Innovation and Research Enterprise (ASPIRE) - would initially employ 250 people, with the potential to expand its staff to 2,000. The cost for ASPIRE is budgeted at $60 million to $80 million, and Dow Corning has already submitted a draft proposal to the Michigan Economic Development Corp. to discuss funding. A Dow Corning spokesperson states that the company will provide an undetermined amount of cash for the project.
No timeline has been set for construction on ASPIRE.
