The Palmdale School District (PSD) in California has begun the installation of a total of 5.873 MW of solar power across 18 sites in its district. Through a public-private partnership with the PSD, PsomasFMG is providing turnkey installation services. The company also arranged for project financing.

The installations will feature 25,536 PV panels mounted atop carport structures. Eight of 18 sites are completed, and all are scheduled to be fully operational by spring 2012, according to PsomasFMG. Each individual installation will be sized under 1 MW.

The initiative is expected to save the PSD millions of dollars over the term of a 20-year power purchase agreement and will provide more than 80% percent of the school district's electrical needs, PsomasFMG says.
