Saft, Schneider Electric Plan Off-Grid PV Project In Madagascar

0

Battery designer and manufacturer Saft has teamed with Schneider Electric to deliver a solar photovoltaic energy project in rural Madagascar. Saft will supply the battery, based on its specialized Sunica.plus cells, for the off-grid electrification of Marovato, a village on Madagascar's east coast.

The new facility provides Marovato's 120 residents with energy for around six hours per day as an alternative source of energy to the kerosene and hand-gathered wood traditionally used by the villagers. It generates a peak power output of 1,400 W in a village that currently uses 490 W.

The 24 V battery system, comprising 18 Saft Sunica.plus 920 Ah cells, stores energy generated in the daytime by 24 BP Solar photovoltaic panels with an average output of 7 kWh.
