International Battery, a manufacturer and developer of large-format lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, has partnered with HNU Energy to participate in a solar power generation and energy storage project in Maui, Hawaii.

The project, recently put into operation, will assess the effectiveness of storing solar energy using new, more efficient battery technology, according to the companies. The system comprises 60 224 W photovoltaic panels, a bi-directional three-phase inverter system, and a charge-controller network provided by HNU Energy.

International Battery supplied a 48V, 16.4 kWh lithium-ion based energy storage system - complete with battery management and controls - to store the energy generated from the solar array.
