Austin Energy, an electric utility based in Austin, Texas, says it has $4 million in funds for solar energy incentives for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1. Incentives are available for residential and commercial solar electric and solar hot water energy systems.

This year, residential customers are eligible for solar electric rebates at $2.50/W, up to a maximum of $15,000 per year. There is a lifetime limit of $50,000 per customer. Rebates are issued on a first-come, first-served basis for qualified customers.

For commercial and multifamily customers, Austin Energy offers a performance-based incentive of $0.14/kWh of energy produced over a 10-year period.

The utility notes that it expects strong demand for solar water heater rebates in the coming year and has budgeted $400,000 for commercial and residential rebates for these systems.
