According to a report from writer Ryan Randazzo of The Arizona Republic, Arizona's utilities are seeking to build the state's largest solar thermal power plant. Tucson Electric Power, Arizona Public Service Co., Salt River Project, smaller Arizona companies and out-of-state utilities are working in concert to plan the project.

The companies envision a 250 MW facility, and they have issued a request for proposals to companies that are interested in building the project - which could be constructed in either Arizona or Nevada, the report says.

Proposals are due in March 2008, and the utilities are seeking to select a builder by June. Within proposals, the utilities have mandated Dec. 31, 2012, as the operational date of the facility.
