Upsolar has closed a 40 MW solar module sales agreement with Turkey-based engineering, procurement and construction firm Sunel-Tes Enerji.

Under the agreement, Upsolar photovoltaic modules will be deployed across dozens of utility-scale projects in the country over the next 12 months. Turkey's National Renewable Energy Action Plan mandates 30% renewables generation by 2023.

The company's first shipment from this contract – 18.7 MW of UP-M260P polycrystalline modules – will be utilized for 17 projects of 1.1 MW each in Turkey's Nevsehir Province. A second 3.3 MW shipment will follow in the coming weeks.

With the first two installations, Upsolar exceeds 35 MW of installed capacity in Turkey since early 2014.

‘The scale of this contract is a major milestone both for Upsolar and for the Turkish PV market as a whole,’ says Ioannis Markatatos, Upsolar's director for Turkey and the Middle East. ‘With 2015 market growth predictions as high as 250 MW, this deal stands as a significant contributor to Turkey's aggressive renewable energy targets.’
