Information Graphic Explains Hawaii’s PV ‘Gridlock’

Alternate Energy Hawaii has produced a graphic to explain how the ‘gridlock’ in Hawaii's photovoltaic adoption occurred and what is being done about it.

The Oahu-based solar electric, solar thermal and energy-efficiency systems created the guide to help customers understand the basic timeline and process for solar installations.

The hope is that new regulations, actions by the the Hawaii Electric Co. utility and the deployment of new technologies will help alleviate the backlog of PV system approvals, which have frustrated solar developers, installers and customers alike.

In December, NextEra announced plans to acquire Hawaiian Electric and that it would support the utility's efforts to clear the backlog.
